This book combines the perfect degree of creepiness and tension. I was hooked from the first chapter and the book kept me enthralled throughout. All of the characters are so well developed. I loved that the POV shifts, really giving the reader a new angle on the story. This book was so good that I didn't want it to end and then I had to know what was going to happen. Oh and it's sexy and funny and really does an excellent job of detailing the perspective of a YA. I loved the main character and f [...]

Well, this was a little dark horse! I'll honestly say I wasn't expecting much while looking at the cover (which needs to be worked on and made more relevant to the story in my opinion), and reading the synopsis. I thought it would be a middling YA haunted house story that would pass the time, but not really stand out for meI was wrong!I thought the characters were engaging, and overall pretty well rounded. The plot had a bit of a rocky start, but after the first few chapters, it found its flow a [...]

But Danny's twin, Heather, loves the house, and keeps trying to get Danny to play with her friend, El [...]

Thank you to the book's publisher who was kind enough to send me an ebook version of the title through NetGalley.I was so excited to receive this, and it's a shame that I ended up not being able to force myself to finish it. The description had me asking questions from the very start, but it's too bad that they were all answered far too quickly. The author didn't draw anything out, it was all very up front and in the open, and yet the characters still seemed to dwell on it far more than they sho [...]

I received this book VIA NetGalley in return for an honest review.I really liked the story line, but there was just to much for me to really enjoy it. I am guilty for believing this was a "ghost" kind of book. While what it's really about did shock me, it just reminded me too much of Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark. Also, it tended to jump a lot in the second and third part, that I had to go back a few pages to make sure I didn't miss anything, and it took me a while of continuous reading to see wha [...]

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.I hate to give a bad review to a book, but this one did not charm me.While I found the Fae a great addition to this story—rather than the ‘haunting’ that seemed to be the case when reading the synopsis—I would have loved for this to be better developed. I felt as if I were reading an early draft of this novel. I barely knew anything about the “other” world, and the back and forth between Day Mary and Night Mary had [...]

I loved it. One of the best books I've read this year. This world is what I loved the most, I love the dark fairie world and want to read more soon please.

HawthornIt starts by getting straight into it and the way of the writing and the language sets me up for how the rest of the book is going to flow and I love it. By the end of the first chapter I'm already hooked and that's hard to come by. With its stomach plummeting mini cliffhanger info the next chapter I'm already hooked and looking for my next excuse to read a bit more. I liked how each chapter was written as if by one of the family members. Sometimes the one sided perspective of a first pe [...]

This review can also be found at millionbookmill**Netgalley provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**What Interested Me:I was looking for something creepy, something with a weird kick and this was a pretty accurate fit for that description.Plot:The plot was brilliant! There were so many different paranormal aspects to this book and they weren't confusing at all. The story was constantly interesting and I loved it. There was not one point in this story when the word [...]

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a free copy in exchange for an honest review!I had conflicting feelings about this book - the first half was meh, but the second half was much better. What I liked:-the creepy factor was on point. I admit to feeling a little freaked out a couple of times and vowed not to read it at night because I have enough imagination issues without being scared of my full-length mirror. I love the idea of reading horror, even though I know it messes with my brain, so, whil [...]

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest reviewWOW.So I thought this was going to be a haunted house novel. It was not (though I won't tell you WHAT it was).Cause SPOILERSThis novel was really good, once I got into it I couldn't put it down. It was creepy and dark, detailed, well written and I didn't see the ending coming until it was almost too late. This novel was written with each chapter from a different character's POV, which I enjoyed. There are two five yeas olds, then Gemma [...]

Great paranormal thriller to match the mysterious cover because trust me, those two don't always correlate.Right at the pivotal point at Gemma's life when she should be going off to college with her friends she's off to a small seaside village with her family to an old house her mother inherited. Learmonth has a long rich history fueled by superstition and rumour which all it's inhabitants respect so instantly Gemma and her family stick out like a sore thumb.Learmonth House itself is the oddest [...]

This was a very eerie, creepy book and I loved every minute of it. The story is about Gemma and her family who have moved into a creepy family home without knowing the story behind the home nor their family legacy that is related to living in this home. Gemma finds the house creepy almost as soon as she sees it, and her views are shared by her younger brother, Danny and the rest of her family except a younger sister Heather who loves the house and has an invisible friend. Although there were som [...]

I went in this book with the wrong expectations. For some reason, I thought it was going to be a fairytale retelling and while it has some elements that could qualify as fairytale-elements, it wasn't. It was actually pretty scary at times. These expectations made this book less successful than I wished. There was something off about the writing-style, that felt a little clumsy at times. I didn't care for the POV switches and the only character I really liked was Danny, the little, innocent and ea [...]

Please see full review at: 5girlsbookreviews and/or our FB page "5 Girls Book Reviews"REVIEW BY: Arianna, age 12 years, 9 monthsMAY CONTAIN SPOILER:A family moves to an old house and weird things start happening. The village people have fangs and a dark presence speaks from a mirror. In some ways the evil presence seems to possess the youngest girl. My favorite part is when they get their new rooms because everyone is excited and happy.

Sadly I can't finish it at this time. It gives me the creeps. Finish it some day but over all it is good

Spectacular and chilling. Freaked me out. I'm not someone who typically likes to read books that scare me but I couldn't put this one down. I'm hooked and a huge fan. I can't wait for the sequel!
