I am sad to say that my run with these Scottish Highlanders have come to an end. This was the last book in this series, and it certainly didn't disappoint me! It was not as "wow" as the others were; but I still thoroughly enjoyed it, and I wish there was going to be more. I will hate to have to say goodbye to these strong loyal clans that I have severely fallen hard for.My only reason for dropping a star in this fifth installment was the fact that there was a lot more war and fighting in this on [...]
Good stories are like sculptures. They already exist in the stone, and are waiting for an artist who can see the sculpture inside and chip away the unnecessary parts to reveal the masterpiece underneath. So that marks the difference between a great story waiting to be written, and a mediocre story which was written to emulate a great story. This book, was an attempt of a mediocre story to be great. I have the feeling that the writer was forcing the story to move forward. The story itself has no [...]
My favorite and the best in the series by far!!!!Sad to see the end, but it was well worth it.
There was nothing really memorable about this book. The characters were likeable enough, but the plot was a little boring. Mairi and Logan's relationship just seemed a little forced to me, and the pacing of the book seemed a little off.
A solid 4 star read I liked this book much, much better than the previous book. Or to be more accurate - I liked Mairi better than Larena! This book picked up where Logan and Darach parted ways in Return of the Highlander. Logan doesn't get far before he passes out from the pain of his broken arm. Mairi finds him and even though she is afraid - helps him and offers him shelter. Logan and Mairi get to know each other and fall in love. Logan cares for Mairi, but is planning on leaving - he has plan [...]
This is book 5 the the Highlander series. When Mairi Campbell stumbles upon a wounded warrior of an enemy clan in the woods, she doesn't have it in her heart to leave him out in the elements. She gets him back to her home and nurses him back to health. Having sworn off men years ago, she is surprised to find herself wildly attracted to the man. But can she afford to get her heart broken again.Logan MacDonald is on a secret mission. He didn't count on having it thwarted by his own brother. Having [...]
Taken by the Highlander is a great story and a good ending to Julianne MacLean's Highlander series. In this book she combined the elements of a lost heir, a new love and a legendary sword to weave the story of Logan and Mari. What started out as a quest for vengeance turned into so much more. It also brought together feuding families, the Campbell's and the MacDonald's, to fight the harsh rule of an English Colonel and atrocities of an English Captain. Though this is supposed to be the last book [...]

Pretending to be someone he was not, Logan Campbell and his brother fought, Logan broke his arm and fell off his horse while fleeing the camp. He struggled until he found his horse which found a barn and then collapsed. Mari Campbell heard the commotion and found Logan in the barn. A widow who was raped by a British soldier, Mari was very leering of helping the unconscious man but since he was unconscious, she couldn't let him die. As Logan recovered, he befriended Mari's young son and soon beca [...]
So I really loved this series and devoured the other books but unfortunately this one fell a little flat for me.The romance between Mairi and Logan was dry and passionless (which is strange because the other books had amazing passion). I felt like everything just happened in this book. One minute Mairi is scared of Logan and the next she loves him. One minute Logan is just a scout and the next he’s the butcher. It just felt a little unrealistic. But I did enjoy the storyline and the first 3rd o [...]
Enjoyable romanceThis was an enjoyable romance with a wonderful hero and heroine. It was an awesome ending to the Highlander series. I loved Logan and Mairi and felt their connection from their very first meeting. This book can be read as a stand alone but is best read in order as characters from the other books do make an appearance and Logan's brother Darach's story fills in the details of their disagreement that ended in the fight wihere Darach broke Logan's arm. This was a wonderful series w [...]
Ending was fast again but I had a moment of worry whilst Mari was left on her own but glad that bit was over quickly. So enjoyed this series and it was nice to catch up with all the couples from the books all be it briefly. I love Hamish I thought he was so cute.
I received this e-book as an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. When I finished reading the previous book in this Highlander series, "Return of the Highlander", I was left wondering what happened to Logan after he ran away from the camp without allowing his brother, Darach to tend to his arm. Therefore, I was glad that this book, "Taken by the Highlander", begins right after Logan flees from his brother. Almost passing out from the pain of his broken arm, Logan is found by Mair [...]
Free bookbub download. I'm not sure if I can pinpoint exactly what this book was missing, but I will try. On the face of it, it had the bones of an interesting and sexy Highlander romance - hot guy with emotional needs, strong sexy woman who can help him, a stormy political landscape to shape their lives. But it all fell flat in the telling. First, there was a LOT of telling. The characters were almost never at a loss for words with each other and the narrative as it flipped half heartedly betwe [...]
This was a great story! I really enjoyed reading it. Logan and Mairi were great characters that pulled me in from the very beginning! I didn't want to put the book down because I wanted to figure out what was going to happen with Logan and Mairi next. Logan has been injured in an argument with his brother and ends up on Mairi's land. She comes out to investigate and finds him. She is very wary because of what has happened to her in the past but she can't just let him stay out there and not offer [...]
As a longtime lover of Karen Marie Moning’s Highlander series and anything written by Hannah Howell and Maya Banks, this book has transported me back in time and has rejuvenated my love for the Highlands and historical romance. I admit I have been binge reading historical romance since I read this book. My only quandary is what took me so long to read Julianne MacLean’s books. The tale begins with Logan MacDonald arrives injured to a cottage in enemy territory. He was discovered by Mairi Camp [...]
** I received an eARC of this book, from the author, in exchange for an honest review.**Fantastic conclusion for this amazing Highlander series! 5 starsJulianne MacLean has done her magic again and delivered her readers an amazing conclusion. I really enjoyed this final story, Taken by the Highlander. It's fast paced, very well written, lots of romance and action, to please lovers of stories set in Scotland. I could not put it down, loved it until the very end!In her previous book, we met Larena [...]
I really enjoyed this book. I started it one day and by the second day I was done. I didn't want to put it down. Logan a fierce warrior is also headstrong and reckless. This behavior finds him incapacitated after a fight with his brother. Mairi finds Logan on his back barely able to move. Mairi guards her family like she guards her heart. She has reason to distrust strangers. But she finds that she is developing feelings for Logan although she fights it. Logan, fierce warrior finds that he can't [...]
I received and ebook ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.I wanted to love this one, I really did. The other books in this series have been great but this one read like a novella rather than a full length book like it's predecessors and by that I mean the story just didn't reach as deep as I hoped it would given the potential of the plot & characters Logan & Mairi are a very interesting couple with each of their back stories creating room for a great book and add that to [...]
This was an easy, quick read. I'm sad to see it's actually the last in the series, but it was offered free through Book Bub so I had to try it. I really enjoyed the realist aspect of the book, especially regarding Mairi and her son, as that's something I've not actually seen in any kind of historical romance fiction book yet. I appreciate also the work and effort you can see her put in to regaining the ability to trust people again, and how Logan accepts that she's in need of a softer, slower ap [...]
TAKEN BY THE HIGHLANDER BY JULIANNE MACLEAN is the third book in the series but can be read as a standalone. Its short, fast and way HOT! Logan MacDonald (or is that his REAL name?) is the kind of guy I'd like to find laying in the meadow, with or without a broken arm! Logan, after a fight with his brother(typically over a girl) finds himself alone, with a broken arm in a meadow. After passing out Logan finds himself on the business end of a gun and holding that gun is the most beautiful woman Mair [...]
Taken by the Highlander is the story of Logan MacDonald (Campbell) and Mairi Campbell and how they learn to trust and heal each other. Logan is a warrior with vengeance in her heart and Mairi had been the victim of rape and was afraid of a man's touch.Logan hides his true identity as a son of the late Campbell laird and is called upon by his people to come forward and drive out the English that occupy their land and control with violence. This is a great historical fiction full of strong warriors [...]
This book was very good. Logan MacDonald is a fierce warrior and a scout for Angus the Lion. He is on a mission to retake his castle, which is on Campbell land, from the British. He is wounded by his brother and is found by Mairi Campbell and she takes him in and heals him. She wants to keep him home at her place but he has a one track mind and goes after his mission. Lots of action and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Highly recommend this series.
Excellent addition to this series and historical read. Please note this can be read as a stand-alone. Logan has been injured in a fight with his brother. After falling off his horse, Mairi finds him and although wary, allows him to stay in her barn. Both have secrets to hide but the passion they have for each other grows. Will a war keep them apart? This is a fast paced read, with lots of drama, the characters are amazing and the story help me captivated throughout. Great Read!
Set in the highlands, but the language was that of teenage Americans? Where is my GD Scottish burr? Warrior so worried about what his wife would feel if she found out he was hurt while he's gone, but never a fear about what might happen to HER when he left her alone while pillaging Englishmen roamed the countryside? After her own history? Seriously? One-dimensional characters, relationships, plot Hard to finish.
Great book I was really surprised by this book. The story wasn't just another highlander story with the same theme as so many are. It had a different twist and story line. Very enjoyable. Just sorry I wasn't able to start with book one in the series. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
Decent book, I liked the plot. Some of it read as a little bit cheesy, but it's a romance novel. So that's to be expected. This was a very PG romance novel, one very nondescript sex scene. Kind of fell short in that department.Good enough read for a fluff.piece to fill my time at night while I'm awake feeding baby. But not a book I would purchase add to my shelves.
I must say that I enjoyed Logan's story much more than I did his brother, Darach's in book 4. I think the characters were written better and the story flowed much more freely. Logan seeks revenge and is hot-headed. Mairi seeks peace. She is able to teach him to love and think before acting. Together they made a great story.
Learning To TrustI like historical romance. Mairi and Logan began their relationship not being truthful to each other. The way the author took them on a journey to trust and love was well written. After several twists and turns, they found true lasting love and family.
This book i throughly enjoyed. It is part of a series but I read it as a stand alone and was not disappointed. The main characters were perfectly matched and i like that. I think this author can write any genre and it would be a bestseller!
